Most Training Is a Waste of Time When It's Boring and People Switch Off

That sounds blunt, but it's true. Billions of pounds get spent on corporate training in the UK every year, and most of it doesn't change anything. People sit through sessions, collect their certificates, and carry on exactly as before. We believe training should be the thing that actually shifts how a business operates. That's why we exist.

    Our Story

    How We Got Here

    Zita Richardson, Founder

    Zita Richardson

    Founder

Our founder, Zita Richardson, has spent years in the corporate world, working across various departments including a Managing Director role in the media industry. Training was something done to her, not something she ran.

She kept watching the same thing happen. Money went into programmes that didn't land. Courses got booked to tick a box and forgotten within a week. Sessions were delivered so flatly that even useful content got buried under a dull voice and a stale slide deck.

It made her wonder why workplace training tends to be so dull, when the subjects underneath it are quite interesting. Leadership, sales conversations, giving feedback, dealing with change at work. None of it is boring on its own. It becomes boring when it's badly taught.

Better On Purpose launched around that idea. We fundamentally believe that engaging, energetic training is the difference between a session that's quickly forgotten and one that actually sticks.

When people are energized and actively involved, they retain what they learn. The aim is to bring training to life—to take content that's been done to death, even the kind people dread sitting through, and turn it into a session people are glad they showed up to.

Since then we've worked with businesses of all sizes across the UK and internationally. We've trained thousands of professionals and built e-learning that people finish without being chased. The most common feedback after a workshop is "when can we do more of this?" Plenty of organisations have come to us treating L&D as a cost line and walked away seeing it as something that moves the business forward.

    Methodology

    How We Think About Training

We Start With the Outcome, Not the Content

Before we design anything, we ask: what do you need people to do differently after this? What behaviour needs to change? What business result are you hoping to see? If we can't answer those questions clearly, we don't move forward. This keeps everything focused and stops us building training for the sake of it.

Designed for How Adults Actually Learn

Your people are busy. They're sceptical of anything that feels like a lecture. They learn best when they can see how something applies to their own role, practise it in a safe environment, and get feedback straight away. So that's exactly how we design our programmes. Short, focused modules. Real scenarios from their working world. Practical exercises they can use the same afternoon. See our approach to Bespoke Training.

    Engagement Isn't Optional

If people aren't paying attention, they're not learning. We use storytelling, group discussion, gamification, case studies, and facilitation techniques that keep energy levels up from start to finish. Not gimmicks for the sake of it, but proven methods that keep adults engaged and make the learning memorable.

    We Measure What Actually Matters

Satisfaction scores are easy to game and don't tell you much. We track whether people are applying their new skills, whether their managers can see a difference, and whether the business metrics you care about are moving in the right direction. If the training isn't delivering results, we redesign it until it does.

    What We Stand For

    Quality Over Volume

We'd rather work with fewer clients and do excellent work than take on everything and deliver average results. We turn down projects that don't fit, because our reputation is built on the results we get, not the number of programmes we run.

    Straight Talking

If something won't work, we'll say so. If there's a simpler or cheaper way to achieve what you need, we'll suggest it. We're not interested in selling you things you don't need. We'd rather have a long-term relationship built on trust than a short-term project built on overselling.

    Always Getting Better

We ask for feedback on everything we do, and we actually use it. Our content, methods, and delivery are constantly being refined based on what's working and what's not. We expect our clients' people to keep learning, and we hold ourselves to the same standard.

    Respect for Your People

Your team aren't empty vessels waiting to be filled with information. They're experienced professionals who bring insights and context to the training. Our job is to add to that, not talk down to them. Every programme we design respects people's intelligence and their time.

    Want To Work With Us?

If you're looking for a training partner who actually cares, let's talk. We'll walk you through how we work, what we'd recommend for your team, and whether we're the right fit.
